I. Council Action Requested.
Title
To approve the July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 contract for services provided by the Animal Refuge League.

- Basis for Council Action.
Council approval of this item is required because;
- a.) 7 M.R.S.A. 7, Chapter 725 ยง 3949 requires municipalities to provide shelter at a State licensed animal control shelter for strayed and lost dogs, cats, and domesticated animals that are a problem in the community and undomesticated animals that pose a threat to public health or safety, and requires that the municipality also must provide services relating to the humane disposition of said animals in the event they are not claimed by their owners, and
b.) the Council has the authority to enter into contracts as the legislative body of the Town pursuant to Article II, Section 3 (I) of the Charter.
- Issue Summary.
Since 1990 the Town has contracted, on an annual basis, with the Animal Refuge League (ARL) which possesses both the expertise and facilities to provide required services.
A copy of the new contract, which covers July 2014 through June 2015, is attached.
