I.                     Council Action Requested.

Title

To authorize the town manager to approve the extension of the street opening permit period for the Portland Water District’s Chute Road Construction Project, which will occur during the winter months of 2025-2026, to build the Chute Road water main as a primary water transmission line connecting the Wards Hill Pump Station on Wards Hill Road in Gorham to the new one-million-gallon water storage tank on Falmouth Road in Windham to enhance the reliability and capacity of the public water system.

II.                     Basis for Council Action.

 

Council approval of this item is required because;

 

a.                     The Council has the authority to enter into contracts as the legislative body of the Town pursuant to Article II, Section 3(I) of the Charter, and

b.                     Council action is required because the order authorizes a purchase requiring financing under Section 5, Paragraph 4 of the Purchasing Policy adopted by order 09-105 on July 28, 2009.

 

III.                     Issue Summary.

 

Residents along Chute and Pope Roads will have the opportunity to connect to PWD’s public water system, sourced by Sebago Lake. To further enhance public safety, PWD will install fire hydrants along the route to improve fire protection in the area.
