To set the dates on which 2014-2015 taxes will be due as October 1, 2014 and April 1, 2015.

II.      Basis for Council Action.

Council approval of this item is required because;

1. Title 36 M.R.S.A. §505(2) states that "a municipality may, with respect to the tax, by vote determine... [t]he date or dates when property taxes shall become due and payable," and
2. Pursuant to Article II, Section 3(I) of the Charter the Town Council has the authority to "[e]xercise all the legislative, financial, borrowing and other powers now or hereafter given by statute to inhabitants of towns acting in Town Meeting."

III.      Issue Summary.

Both due dates fall on Wednesday. Customarily, due dates are set on the first day of October and April.
