The Council will discuss the process to fill the vacant at-large seat.
According to Article II, Section 2(D) of the Charter “In case of a vacancy caused by death, resignation or other cause, the vacancy shall be filled at the next regular Municipal election for the unexpired term. The Council shall fill vacancies in its number occurring between regular Municipal elections, and the term of office of any member of the Council so chosen shall expire at the next Municipal election.”
No one filed for the vacant seat and there were no declared write-in candidates. As outlined in the memo from the town clerk with guidance from the town attorney, MMA Legal Services, the Maine Secretary of State’s Office, and pursuant to statute, no write-in votes were counted in the November 8 election, leaving the seat still vacant.
