To approve applications for property tax assistance pursuant to Chapter 112 of the Code of the Town of Windham, “Property Tax Assistance.”

II. Basis for Council Action.
Council approval of this item is required because;
a. Pursuant to Section 6 of the Property Tax Assistance Ordinance, Chapter 112, as adopted by the Council on October 10, 2017, the Council shall consider approval “at its second meeting in August each year the projected payments and number of eligible applicants requesting assistance from the program fund.”
III. Issue Summary.
The Council set aside $50,000 in the program fund for fiscal 2018-2019. Eligibility is based on applicants’ household incomes for 2017 and taxes paid for 2017-2018.
Seventy-nine (79) applications were received by the August 1, 2018 deadline. Of those, eleven (11) did not qualify, twelve (12) qualified for amounts less than the maximum benefit of $500, with the remaining fifty-six (56) qualifying for the full amount, for a total of $31,157 of the $50,000 budgeted for this year.
