I.                     Council Action Requested.

Title

To adopt a resolution and endorse the application to the U.S. Congress’ Community Project Funding Program, through the office of U.S. Congresswoman Chellie Pingree, for $500,000 in funding to replace the John A Andrews School storage facility with a new storage facility on RSU property and raze the existing old school building; for the purpose of constructing new senior public housing that meets the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Economic Development initiatives, and to authorize the Town Manager to submit the application and take any other necessary action related thereto.

II.                     Basis for Council Action.

Council approval of this item is required because;

a.                     Pursuant to Article II, Section 3(I) of the Charter, the Town Council shall "[e]xercise all the legislative, financial, borrowing and other powers now or hereafter given by statute to inhabitants of towns acting in Town Meeting except as otherwise provided herein, and also exercise all the powers now or hereafter given by statute to municipal officers of towns.”

 

III.                     Issue Summary.

 

The Town would facilitate the grant implementation and receive the property for $1 from the RSU.
